Facility-specific
1. Blood cultures / sterile specimens
2. Light Blue — citrate / coag
3. Serum tubes — red / gold / tiger / SST / serum royal blue
4. Heparin tubes — dark green / light green / mint / PST / heparin royal blue / pearl
5. EDTA tubes — lavender / pink / tan / EDTA royal blue
6. Gray — fluoride / oxalate
7. Yellow ACD / specialty tubes — per local lab policy
Common examples: CBC = lavender (EDTA). CMP = often gold/SST or green depending lab. Blood gases are often collected in dedicated blood-gas syringes rather than the routine tube sequence. Follow your facility laboratory policy.
