1. Blood cultures / sterile specimens — before other tubes

2. Light Blue — sodium citrate (PT/INR, aPTT, D-dimer, coag)

3. Serum tubes — Red / Gold / Tiger / SST / serum Royal Blue (chemistry, CMP/CMP-style chemistries depending lab)

4. Heparin tubes — Dark Green / Light Green / Mint / PST / heparin Royal Blue / Pearl where used

5. EDTA tubes — Lavender / Pink / Tan / EDTA Royal Blue

6. Gray — fluoride / oxalate (glucose, lactate depending local workflow)

7. Yellow ACD / specialty tubes — when ordered per local lab policy

Common examples: CBC = Lavender (EDTA); CMP = often Gold/SST or Green depending lab; blood gases are often collected in dedicated blood-gas syringes rather than the routine tube sequence. Always follow your facility lab policy.
